Writing

I’ve written two pieces for Wrightwood 659, during the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 seasons. It made me consider adding further written context to my practice, so I am starting a newsletter. If you would like updates on my art practice, join below.

Simonds began his formal art education at Rhode Island School of Design’s pre-college program in 2015, and subsequently enrolled in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s undergraduate program in 2017, concentrating his focus in painting and drawing. He was a member of the artist team for Rirkrit Tiravanija’s who’s afraid of red, yellow, and green at Wrightwood 659 in 2022. Through the Educator position at Wrightwood 659, he has written and narrated two analyses and one gallery talk about artwork featured in The First Homosexuals and Kongkee: Warring States Cyberpunk and will be returning during the Fall 2023 season. He creative directed Chicago Artist Coalition’s “Work in Progress” annual benefit in 2019 and handled works at auction in 2022. He received his BFA from SAIC in 2021.

His first solo exhibition indignity opens at Turley Gallery in Hudson, New York on October 7th, 2023.
